Alice Cooper Concert With A Side Of Camping

On October 4, 2023 I had the chance to see Alice Cooper for the 2nd time in my life at The Amp in St. Augustine, FL. The first time I saw him was March 3, 1990 with both of my parents. I know that it seems odd that I went to a show like this with my parents but my dad is a huge Alice fan and since I was really digging Alice’s Trash album at the time (still do), I was in! In fact, this was his Trash tour that we attended.

Fast forward to his most recent concert…

When you go to see an artist or band after 33 years you are sometimes skeptical because they have aged. Maybe they can’t sing as well as they used to? Maybe they can’t move around the way that they used to? Many questions come to mind when you take the plunge to see an artist/band that you think may not live up to your expectations since you have seen them pretty much in his/her prime. This would NOT be the case with Alice Cooper!
Hubby and I did our usual camping at Anastasia State Park which is connected to the venue. It’s a short walk to the venue and a short stumble back :). They also have a tram that will take you too if you do not want to walk or have difficulties walking. As for us, my motto is “no need to drive and risk getting a DUI” ! We did some fishing and relaxing on the beach before the concert.

After the beach we made our way back to our campsite and took a nap.

We got up and had some Publix sandwiches that we brought and cracked open the beers. We didn’t hear a warm up band playing (you can hear the music at your campsite), so we assumed that the warm up band would start at 8:15, but we were wrong, Alice went on at 8:15 sharp and it was wonderful! It’s not that we DON’T like warm up bands (I’ve discovered many great bands who were warm up bands over the years), but it was nice to go to a concert and get THE artist or band you paid to see, no filler and at the exact time scheduled.

We grabbed some more beers and made our way to our seats.

Alice had just finished touring on the Freaks on Parade tour with Rob Zombie, Ministry and Filter so his set list had change just a bit with the addition of one of my favorite songs “Bed Of Nails”! Didn’t see it coming but I’m glad it smacked me in the face!

He played all the favorites that you would expect at an Alice Cooper concert. Everything from I’m Eighteen to Poison to Ballad of Dwight Fry. He also didn’t disappoint with the theatrics. The Cold Ethyl dance, the mental institution, the guillotine and the larger than life persona of Alice Cooper aka the split personality of Mr. Vincent Damon Furnier as I call it.

I love theatrics. I love dark stuff. I love when artists push the envelope. You will find all of that and more at an Alice Cooper concert. And if you’ve seen him, then, YOU KNOW. He takes you on a ride and even at 76 years old, the man still has it.
His recorded songs are great, his live performances of those songs are FANTASTIC! The band is tight and Nita Strauss and Ryan Roxie work the stage with so much energy.
In the end, if I had a chance to see him again, I would do it in a heartbeat AND I would spend the extra money to get a little bit closer to the action. My advice is to NOT skimp on an Alice Cooper concert. You DON’T want to be in the nosebleed section when seeing him!

Sammy Hagar & The Circle w/Collective Soul

Ron and I had been looking forward to seeing Sammy Hagar for months and then Hurricane Irma came through our area and the original date of September 20th changed to November 11th.  In the long run, it worked out better because we didn’t have to take time off from work since the rescheduled concert landed on a Saturday.  We were so happy that they postponed the date and did not cancel it! Since St. Augustine is about an hour and a half from our house, we decided to get a hotel at the  Hampton Inn  (We are Hampton Inn freaks) on A1A and make a weekend out of it.  We’ve never been to this particular hotel or seen beach side in St. Augustine.  Every time we visit, we stay in the Historic District (I’ll be there in a few weeks for their tour of lights..stay tuned for that blog in about a month or so). We arrived at the hotel around 1pm and I walked in to see if we could check in early.  They said they would take our phone number and call us if the room...

Keifer Band & Faster Pussycat Show

On 7.23.22 I had the chance to see the Keifer Band and Faster Pussycat at Destination Daytona in Ormond Beach, Florida. If you are unfamiliar with who Tom Keifer is he was the lead singer of the band Cinderella in the 80s. They gained superstar status when they released their first album  Night Songs  with hits such as, Nobody’s Fool, Shake me and Somebody Save Me. It was heavy, raw and Tom Keifer’s raspy screams won me over the moment I listened to the album. I have never seen Faster Pussycat in concert before but when I saw that they were on the ticket with Keifer, I was excited! I love glam metal. It’s one of my favorite genre’s of music and they are as sleaze glam as you get! Faster Pussycat were the first band to take the stage and they started their set with Jack the Bastard. The crowd was pumped and they kept us on a high for the hour and a half that they were on stage. They played some of the favorites like Slip of the Tongue, Bathroom Wall and the mega ballad House of...
